13:16Now PlayingHouse Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Thursday morning after Democrats advanced their discharge petition to force a vote on a 3-year extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies.
With the help of some moderate Republicans, Democrats reached the 218-signature threshold needed to move the measure forward, as the COVID-ear enhanced tax credits — which help to keep insurance costs lower — are set to expire at the end of the year. Despite the movement, the lower chamber’s waiting period requirement will likely push that vote into the new year.
The GOP-led bill, however, passed through the House on Wednesday — without an amendment to extend the subsidies.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
