7:12Now PlayingMinnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) will answer reporters’ questions at a Monday news conference after dropping his reelection bid.
Walz, who was former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 running mate, was facing a challenging political future after finding himself at the epicenter of a growing fraud scandal focused on hundreds of millions of dollars allegedly stolen from a federally funded nutrition program,
“Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I can’t spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences,” Walz said in a Monday morning statement.
“So I’ve decided to step out of the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the work.”
