House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will speak with reporters Thursday afternoon as Democratic leaders line up to oppose funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) amid President Trump’s ramped up immigration crackdown in blue-run cities around the country.

The Trump administration has faced increased pressure over DHS's tactics in recent weeks after the fatal shooting of a Minneapolis woman earlier this month by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer. Protests spread across the state and beyond in opposition to the federal government's use of force in ICE operations.

The House is expected to vote later Thursday on funding for the department after legislation advanced through a key procedural hurdle earlier in the day.

The press conference is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
