Omar has taken a defiant tone against the Trump administration’s surge in federal agents to Minnesota in the wake of two fatal shootings in Minneapolis involving immigration officials. Following the spraying incident, she said she would “survive” the “intimidation” attempt.
President Trump on Wednesday doubled down on his criticism of the Somali American lawmaker, suggesting she staged the incident.
The FBI confirmed to The Hill’s sister network NewsNation that the agency is taking over the investigation. The suspect, who was arrested, was identified as 55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. EST.
