Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) will give remarks Thursday morning at the winter meeting of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, as his home state reels in the wake of two fatal shootings at the hands of immigration enforcement officials.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, who has defended the officers involved in the deaths, is facing mounting criticism over the agency's enforcement tactics in Minnesota. Many Democratic lawmakers and local officials have urged President Trump to oust Noem in recent days.

Frey, who met with Tom Homan earlier this week after the border czar was sent to Minneapolis, has doubled down on his sanctuary city policies. He told Homan that the city would not help with the Trump administration's immigration operations.

The mayor's speech is scheduled to begin at 1:45 p.m. EST.
