The annual meeting between Trump and state leaders — typically a bipartisan gathering — has been overshadowed by the president's attacks on Democratic Govs. Wes Moore (Md.) and Jared Polis (Colo.). The National Governors Association (NGA) said earlier this week that it would no longer facilitate its annual meeting amid the turmoil.
Democrats have been split in their responses, with some planning to use the NGA weekend to advocate for their states and others opting out altogether.
Friday's breakfast and a lavish dinner Saturday are still on the books, just without the association's formal support, according to an NGA spokesperson.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST.
