21:46Now PlayingDefense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Adm. Brad Cooper, the head of the U.S. Central Command, will brief reporters Thursday afternoon on the U.S. military operation in Iran.
Hegseth's remarks come a day after he previewed a major bombing campaign in the Middle East, days after the U.S. and Israel launched joint strikes against Tehran over the weekend. During a press conference Wednesday, the Pentagon chief signaled, "more and larger waves are coming. We are just getting started."
President Trump and Hegseth have defended what's been named "Operation Epic Fury" in recent days and said the military effort could last for weeks.
The strikes have garnered mixed reaction across the U.S. and Iranian officials have vowed to retaliate after the strikes took out their top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying late Wednesday that want "Trump's blood."
Six U.S. service members were killed in Iranian counterstrikes in Kuwait on Sunday.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. EST.
