Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine will speak with reporters Friday morning as tensions remain high over the conflict in Iran and the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

The briefing also comes after President Trump announced on Thursday that Israel and Lebanon agreed to extend their temporary truce for another three weeks. He expanded the fragile ceasefire with Iran "indefinitely" earlier this week, willing the Iranian regime to come back to the negotiating table.

U.S. Central Command, which oversees military operations in the region, also touted early Friday that for the "first time in decades," the Pentagon has three aircraft carriers operating in the Middle East.
