as posted by the channelPresident Trump said Friday that he was meeting in the White House Situation Room to make a “final determination” on the tentative agreement to extend the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump reiterated his call for Iran to never obtain a nuclear weapon and for the vital shipping lane to immediately open without tolls or restrictions in both directions.
U.S. sources confirmed Thursday that negotiators for Washington and Tehran had reached a deal on a 60-day memorandum of understanding to extend the ceasefire in the Middle East and reopen the strait. Neither Trump nor Iranian leadership has yet agreed to the proposal.
Both sides will also commit to negotiating the future of Iran’s nuclear enrichment program and U.S. sanctions on the regime, according to the agreement.
The U.S. and Iran have exchanged strikes in recent days despite the talks for a ceasefire extension.
In domestic politics, Trump scored a major win this week when his favored candidate, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, defeated incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in a runoff primary by a wide margin.
