Former University of Alabama football coach Nick Saban and others will testify before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee on Wednesday morning about college sports and how to protect competition and support student athletes.

The hearing comes after a bipartisan group of senators introduced legislation to allow the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to create new rules around key issues such as its transfer portal, television rights and eligibility requirements for major college sports programs.

The Protect College Sports Act would specifically grant the NCAA limited antitrust protection shielding it from litigation around name, image and likeness (NIL) deals; student athlete-agent rules; student athlete medical coverage, as well as health and safety standards. President Trump has also pushed for similar reforms.
