The White House is seeking $20.8 billion in discretionary budget authority for USDA in 2027, a $4.9 billion decrease from 2026.
The hearing comes as many U.S. farmworkers say they cannot afford fertilizer due to rising costs caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz — a key shipping channel — and the U.S.-Israeli conflict in Iran. Rollins in past comments signaled the price increases would not be "shouldn't be too disruptive" for farmers.
