1:38Now PlayingVice President Vance said he was “not at all” concerned that President Trump will make him the fall guy if the Iran deal fails.
“No, not at all,” Vance told reporters at a White House press briefing Thursday, when asked if he was worried Trump would make him the fall guy.
“I think the president was joking as he often does,” he said.
Trump joked on stage at the Group of Seven summit Wednesday that Vance, the lead negotiator with Tehran, would take the blame if the deal falls through.
At the briefing, Vance also said the administration is “quite confident” that sanctions on Iranian oil can be waived as part of a new peace agreement without congressional approval.
Vance was asked about the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, a law that prevents the president from lifting sanctions on Iran before discussing it with Congress.
