58:21Now PlayingBrian Johnson, President Trump's pick for director of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) is testifying Thursday morning before the Senate Banking Committee.
Johnson served in various roles at the agency during Trump's first administration.
Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought has been serving as the acting CFPB head. Earlier this month, he was lambasted by Democrats over his tenure at the consumer watchdog agency, where he has moved quickly to halt many of its functions and shut down its headquarters.
The CFPB, which was created in the wake of the 2007-08 financial crisis, has long been a target for conservatives, who argue it is a prime example of government overreach.
