YouTube recently announced that it'll soon be tightening requirements for smaller creators when it comes to monetization. Now YouTubers must have a minimum of 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours worth of watch time per year to monetize videos. While YouTube says this will stabilize ad revenue for everyone else by weeding out the few bad actors (thus reducing the likelihood of another advertiser boycott), it also arbitrarily penalizes small creators that are already struggling to make it on the platform.
