YouTube Description
as posted by the channelThe Supreme Court heard oral arguments about Trump’s unconstitutional executive order that strips away birthright citizenship—a constitutional right guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment. Trump’s attorneys, however, didn’t bring the case before SCOTUS to have them address the constitutionality of his executive order. Instead, they asked the Court to address a procedural question about whether or not district court judges have the power to issue universal nationwide injunctions that block executive orders. The conservative justices seemed to agree with the procedural argument Trump’s attorneys were making; meaning, Trump’s blatantly unconstitutional executive order will likely be allowed to take effect. Unless the Supreme Court rules against Trump, they’ll effectively take away one of the most important checks on his power (universal injunctions), which means he’s going to be able to violate the constitution with impunity. In this video we’ll discuss highlights from oral arguments and talk about the implications of this ruling—assuming the Supreme Court makes the decision they seem poised to make (based on assessments of oral arguments).
