Even Celebrities Can’t Afford Healthcare in America—And Trump’s Scam “Solution” Won’t Help

James Van Der Beek, star of ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and ‘Varsity Blues,’ is auctioning off memorabilia from his acting career to help pay for medical expenses following his Stage 3 colorectal cancer diagnosis. It speaks to how broken our healthcare system is—that it’s too expensive even for celebrities—and it’s about to get worse. Knowing healthcare costs are rising, the Trump Administration has cooked up a “solution” to circumvent “big, fat, rich” health insurance companies to bring down costs. The problem with his plan, however, is it’s an obvious scheme to funnel money to both private insurance companies AND big banks in a roundabout way.
