Carney says negotiate Trump gave him 30 days and a 1930 law

On Monday, July 20, President Trump signed three proclamations under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930 — the first recorded use of the provision in nearly a century — imposing 50% tariffs on a wide range of Canadian goods, from wine to hockey sticks to cement, effective August 19. They apply regardless of CUSMA coverage.
