Context: Rodney Hinton Jr., 38, has been indicted for the aggravated murder of Hamilton County Deputy Kurt Henderson, in what prosecutors describe as a targeted, intentional vehicular attack on a uniformed officer. The fatal incident occurred on May 2, 2025—just one day after Hinton’s son, Ryan Hinton, was shot and killed by a Cincinnati police officer while fleeing a stolen vehicle with a firearm.
According to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, Hinton was shown the bodycam footage of his son’s shooting earlier that morning. He left the police department visibly upset, returned multiple times, and eventually retrieved his vehicle. At 12:50 p.m., he drove through the parking lot again before heading toward the University of Cincinnati, where Deputy Henderson was working a traffic detail on graduation day.
Prosecutors say Hinton stopped, waited for traffic to clear, and intentionally accelerated toward the deputy, crossing multiple lanes before striking Henderson. The impact killed the deputy and endangered dozens of civilians. Hinton has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder, one count of murder, and two counts of felonious assault. The death penalty is on the table.
Hinton is being held on no bond as the investigation continues. Prosecutors are handling the officer-involved shooting of Ryan Hinton as a separate matter.
