Christian caller Brian demonstrates why progressive Christianity struggles with credibility. He opens by admitting atheists don't need God and he could have managed without belief, then spends thirty minutes defending why God matters anyway. Brian dismisses hell as "poetic language," claims modern scholars have corrected two millennia of Christian misunderstanding, and insists his Seventh-day Adventist interpretation trumps mainstream theology. The hosts aren't buying it. Seth quotes scripture after scripture about eternal punishment while Brian hand-waves each away. Forrest gets heated listing God's biblical genocides and asking why that same God wouldn't run a literal hell. Brian's response: his denomination disagrees. When pressed on God's failures to communicate clearly or stop world hunger despite omnipotence, Brian admits God has limitations. The call implodes when Brian accuses them of misquoting the Bible—by reading what it actually says.
