A caller named Yvr phones in claiming The Line is her "church" and community, but things get heated fast when she's asked to defend her deist beliefs. Yvr describes deism as similar to Shintoism or animism, using examples like apologizing to "cup gods" and saying sorry to Mr. Rogers as useful fictions. When challenged on whether believing false things is harmful, she argues that believing her stuffed animal can talk doesn't hurt anyone. Owen and Matt counter that while specific false beliefs might seem harmless, the flawed reasoning process that leads someone to accept demonstrably untrue claims makes them vulnerable to accepting other potentially harmful false beliefs. The conversation deteriorates as Yvr dismisses their arguments, calls them "bloviating donkeys" while on mute during Matt's detailed explanation of heuristic models, and then hangs up. Matt reveals Yvr was muted during his entire response and declares he'll block the number, frustrated that someone claiming sincere interest in the show's community couldn't engage honestly when asked to defend their god belief or understand basic concepts like burden of proof.
