"In a new poll of the GOP presidential field, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul have fallen, putting them in the bottom half of the 17-person pack.
Christie is supported by 2 percent in the survey from the left-leaning Public Policy Polling obtained by MSNBC, while Paul is supported by 1 percent.
Paul got 4 percent support in the same poll in late July, while Christie had 3 percent. Paul also slid from sixth to 10th place in The Hill's latest ranking of the GOP field, edging out Christie.
Paul is expected to be among the top 10 candidates to make the main stage for the second GOP debate on Sept. 16, which is based on polls going back to mid-July.
Christie is attempting to fend off former businesswoman Carly Fiorina, who missed the last spot on the main stage for the first debate last month.
The latest poll shows bombastic billionaire Donald Trump and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson atop the crowded GOP presidential field with 29 percent and 15 percent, respectively.
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (9 percent) and Fiorina (8 percent) follow, along with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee closely behind."
