Ocasio-Cortez — who has yet to offer an endorsement in the mayoral race — was flabbergasted that Yang thought he’d be welcome at the Astoria Welfare Society event, which came ahead of Wednesday’s Eid, the conclusion of the Ramadan fast.
“Utterly shameful for Yang to try to show up to an Eid event after sending out a chest-thumping statement of support for a strike killing 9 children,” tweeted Ocasio-Cortez, one of the most influential progressives in Congress. “But then to try that in Astoria? During Ramadan?! They will let you know.”
