7:12Now PlayingUnion County Public Schools board member Don Yarber literally got up and left a hearing after being challenged over some of his homophobic Facebook posts.
During a school board meeting on Monday, a dance teacher in the school district, Mark Lamb, who is openly gay told him:
“I’ve dealt with bullies all my life, so Mr. Yarber, when you made those comments on Facebook, they roll right off me because I have developed a very tough skin,”
“When I was a kid, I suffered messages like you said, when you cavalierly mentioned suicide, and they made me not want to be alive,” Lamb continued.
“I believe that all of us can do better. Even the bullies. Even you, Mr. Yarber.”
