Nine Republicans ended up crossing the aisle to help Democrats meet the threshold to force the bill onto the floor. After it passed, Johnson retaliated by canceling all congressional activity for the week, and sending everyone home.
President Donald Trump recently weighed in on the issue of proxy voting, telling reporters Thursday:
"You’re having a baby, you should be able to call in and vote. I’m in favor of that.”
