The VA just pushed through a new rule that changes how disability ratings are calculated. Instead of rating veterans based on how serious their conditions are, the VA will now rate them based on how well they function while on medication and treatment.
Veterans’ groups are sounding the alarm. They say this will quietly lower disability payments by pretending that a condition is “less severe” simply because meds temporarily mask the symptoms. In other words: if your PTSD meds help you sleep a little better, the VA can now treat you as less disabled – and cut your check.
