Rock Regional Hospital in Kansas is already closed. East Ohio Regional Hospital is closed. Warren County's only maternity unit in Pennsylvania is shutting down. This is not a projection. It is already happening.
HealthLeaders projects $69 billion in hospital revenue losses over just the next two years. 41 percent of rural hospitals are now at financial risk. The National Rural Health Association estimates 1 in 5 rural hospitals will close.
North Carolina requested $1 billion from the federal rural health fund to offset the damage and then told reporters it still would not be enough. The Republican rural health fund included in the Big Beautiful Bill, per Protect Our Care, has "come nowhere near to replacing the billions of dollars Republicans ripped away from rural health systems."
