7:55Now PlayingIn March 2025, Colorado Congressman Jeff Hurd (R, CO-03) went on the record promising to protect "the poor, the working poor, mothers, pregnant women, and children" on Medicaid. Then on July 3, 2025, he voted yes on the One Big Beautiful Bill — roughly $1.2 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and food stamps, the largest healthcare cut in U.S. history. Meanwhile the main hospital in his own district, Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center in La Junta, ended its obstetric services and began laying off staff. The Colorado Hospital Association estimates a $10.4 billion hit to the state's hospital provider fee over five years — money the state says it cannot replace. His constituents warned him in writing before the vote. He voted yes anyway. Here's who actually pays for it.
