Adan Madrid, 65 — whose family helped found his town — was offered $2,500 for a "right of passage" across his property, including the home he lives in.
Joe Carrasco, a 71-year-old retired oil-field worker, and Yolanda Alvarado, 38, got similar letters.
Here's what makes it absurd: Big Bend is 517 miles — about a quarter of the entire southern border — but saw just 3,096 migrant encounters in FY2025, a 74% drop, and only 1.3% of all border traffic.
They're seizing generational family land for a wall across the emptiest stretch of the border.And the Texas Republicans who built a 20-year brand on "private property is sacred"? Silent.
Eminent domain was tyranny right up until it was pointed at a rancher's home for a wall.
