If you were to follow Church Street up along the bend in the Schuykill River which separates Chester and Montgomery Counties, though, sure enough, you’d find yourself at the gates of the notorious Pennhurst State School and Hospital; a place where residents suffered abuses so severe that their exposure sparked the downfall of the entire asylum system as we once knew it. In the nearly forty years which have passed since its closure, the property has been used as a Veterans Housing center, faced propositions to turn it into a park, been sold to private investors, added to the National Register of Historic places, had a cameo in Season 4 of Stranger Things, and now is in danger of being bulldozed in order to build an AI data center against the will of the community which surrounds it. But above all, there is one thing that Pennhurst is known for as far as the locals are concerned: it’s the most haunted place any of us have ever been. Welcome back to The Lore Lodge...
