For two days, Larry and Lois Williams had been trying to get in touch with their son, Danny, but with each subsequent phone call that went unanswered, it had grown harder and harder for them to push their panic down, and by Sunday evening, they had hit their limit. And while their son was an adult, with his own house and life, the Williams’s were like countless other worried parents whose adult children suddenly fall out of contact: they knew that this wasn’t like their son. And so, on a Sunday night in June, the couple got in their car and drove the ten or so minutes to Danny’s house, likely hoping that they were just overreacting and that Danny would answer the door, roll his eyes at them for needlessly worrying, and send them back home, a little embarrassed but hugely relieved. As it turned out, Danny was home, but no one answered the door, and once Larry Williams got inside his son’s house, the questions would only multiply. Welcome back to the Lore Lodge.
