Nepal-Tibet Flash Flood HORROR: Hundreds Missing After Avalanche

A catastrophic flash flood along the Nepal-Tibet border has killed dozens and left hundreds of people missing after an enormous surge of water, mud, rock and debris tore through communities in the Himalayas.

Latest reporting puts the combined death toll at at least 98 across Nepal and Tibet, while hundreds remain unaccounted for, including foreign tourists and workers from countries including the United States, India, Britain, Australia and Canada.

Dramatic video shows people running moments before a massive wall of water and debris sweeps through the border region, destroying buildings, roads, bridges and infrastructure.

Investigators are examining whether an ice-rock avalanche or glacier collapse triggered the catastrophic surge. A magnitude-4.4 earthquake was recorded shortly before the disaster, although authorities are still investigating exactly what role it played. Satellite imagery indicates a major collapse high in the Himalayas sent ice, rock and debris crashing into the river system below.

Rescue operations are now underway across Nepal and Tibet, but destroyed roads, high water levels and continued rainfall are making some of the hardest-hit areas extremely difficult to reach.

And authorities are still monitoring the possibility of additional flooding.
