Earlier this year, Shirley drew major attention to suspected hospice and healthcare fraud in Southern California. CBS News later independently investigated the same Van Nuys building and found that state records listed 89 licensed hospice companies at a single three-story office plaza. Auditors regard this kind of clustering as a major warning sign for potential fraud, and CBS found that 72 of the 89 companies showed at least three recognized red flags.
