Will Americans get any freedom from high grocery prices this Fourth of July?

As Americans hit the grocery stores to prep for their Independence Day cookouts, they are hoping for a break at the checkout line.

Samantha Ayoub, who is an associate economist for the American Farm Bureau, said costs will mostly be the same this year as the two previous years.

She said while shoppers paid an average of $67.73 for a grocery run that fed 10 people in 2023, as well as $71.22 in 2024, they are estimated to spend about $70.92 in 2025.

That means, she said, there won't be and big increases.

"While it's kind of coming down, obviously 30 cents on your grocery bill isn't a lot for American families, but this comes after years of spikes in prices and high food inflation," she said.
