Kerr County emergency coordinator defends his absence during the deadly Texas flooding

Kerr County’s emergency management coordinator, William B. Thomas IV, testified on Thursday that he was sick and asleep when extreme flooding rushed through Texas Hill Country on July 4. The flooding eventually killed 108 people in Thomas’ county.

Hundreds of residents attended the hearing held by state lawmakers in Kerrville where Thomas’ testimony was delivered. The convention center is located a short walk away from the Guadalupe River where waters reached record levels.
