Rep. Mitch Little suggests stiffer penalties for Texas Democrats evading redistricting

Democrats in the Texas House continue hiding out of state over redistricting efforts as Gov. Greg Abbott threatens to call more special sessions for the next two years until the maps are redrawn.

Texas Republican State Rep. Mitch Little represents District 65 just north of Dallas. He is also a Harvard graduate and an attorney.

From a legal standpoint, he said it would be best to remove seniority from members of the Texas House who fled the state.

"The quorum break has to carry more significant penalties,” Little said Tuesday during a one-on-one interview with The National News Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat.

He said another possible repercussion would be to remove vice chairmanships from them.

"There’s an escalating series of penalties that we can deploy here if we can’t get in compliance,” he said.
