Why are some federal agents masked in federalization of Washington, DC?

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser is questioning why some federal officers have been wearing masks while patrolling the city under President Donald Trump’s federal control.

When asked by 7News if the Trump administration had responded to her concerns, Bowser said she hasn’t seen a reason for officers to cover their faces.

Bowser also noted that most federal officers she has seen have worn appropriate uniforms or vests identifying their agencies, adding that the masked officers appear to be from the Department of Homeland Security rather than the Department of Justice.

"Why do they need masks? They're federal officials. They're paid by taxpayers. They should be doing their jobs in a way that's lawful and constitutional, and that's part of the job," she said. "And so I don't, I don't know why anybody needs to wear a mask."
