Baltimore schools under fire for lack of math skills and accountability, report reveals

As concerns grow over the state of public education across the country, President Donald Trump is taking aim at what he says is a “broken system,” starting with a sweeping executive order to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education.

When signing the executive order, Trump pointed out Baltimore City high schools as an example of educational failure, citing data that shows 40% of schools in the city have zero students proficient in math. The statistic was from investigative journalist Chris Papst, whose reporting has long focused on the challenges facing Baltimore’s public schools.
