Decades-long peace vigil outside White House partially removed under Trump's order

A peace vigil that has stood across from the White House for more than four decades was partially dismantled over the weekend following a direct order from President Donald Trump.

Early Sunday morning, U.S. Park Police removed tents belonging to the vigil at Lafayette Square, a site long known for its anti-war messages and calls for nuclear disarmament. The volunteers who have maintained the vigil around the clock for years said it was never a shelter or homeless encampment, but a powerful symbol of protest protected under the First Amendment.
