Utah governor compares Charlie Kirk assassination to JFK and MLK Jr. assassinations

As more details continue to emerge surrounding the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, Utah Governor Spencer Cox reiterated multiple times Friday that the country is seeing how dangerous social media can be in radicalizing America's youth. Cox condemned having footage of Kirk's assassination so readily available to U.S. citizens, calling social media a "cancer."

"This is not good for us. It is not good to consume," said Cox.

While referencing both Kirk's assassination and the murder of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska, whose fatal stabbing on a Charlotte train rapidly circulated online, Cox said human beings aren't conditioned to see this type of violence.

"We have not evolved in a way that we are capable of processing those types of violent imagery," Cox said.
