as posted by the channelPresident Donald Trump formally decided this week that the United States is now in a "non-international armed conflict" with drug cartels and told Congress the administration is labeling them as "unlawful combatants," according to a memo obtained by The New York Times.
“Based upon the cumulative effects of these hostile acts against the citizens and interests of the United States and friendly foreign nations, the president determined that the United States is in a noninternational armed conflict with these designated terrorist organizations,” the notice read in part.
Last month, Trump ordered U.S. military strikes on three alleged drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean Sea. At least two of the vessels originated from Venezuela.
