Body cam released: Teacher shot by 6-year-old testifies in $40 million lawsuit

The former Virginia teacher who was shot by a 6-year-old student in 2023 took the stand during her $40 million lawsuit against a school administrator.

Abigail Zwerner was hospitalized for almost two weeks after being shot in the chest and left hand while teaching first graders at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia.

Newly-released body camera video shows the moment after Zwerner was shot, being treated by first responders and transferred to a stretcher to be hospitalized.

When recounting the moment she was shot on January 6, 2023, Zwerner said that she thought she “had died,” and that after the bullet hit her, she “thought I was on my way to heaven or in heaven.”
