'Obamacare failed': Failed promises and rising premiums hurt Americans, expert says

Healthcare is back at the center of the fight in Washington, D.C., with enhanced Obamacare subsidies set to expire at the end of the year, meaning millions of people might face higher premiums.

The White House is weighing a new health plan that may extend those subsidies, a move that could split Republicans.

But one group says lawmakers should go in a different direction.

Grover Norquist is the president of Americans for Tax Reform, which is one of the most influential voices on tax policy in the country. He said the nation needs healthcare subsidies is because Obamacare failed.

“Obamacare did not do what President Obama said would,” Norquist said during an interview with The National News Desk’s Angela Brown on Wednesday. “You were supposed to be able to keep your doctor -- that was not true. Everybody was supposed to see their insurance premiums go down by $2,500 -- instead, they doubled.”
