'We hit the ISIS thugs in Syria': Trump retaliates after US troops killed in ambush

The U.S. launched a deadly attack in Syria on Friday, hitting multiple targets, according to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

The strikes come nearly a week after two Iowa National Guard members and a U.S. civilian interpreter were killed in the Syrian desert. The Trump administration said the Islamic State group in central Syria (ISIS) was responsible for the ambush.

"We hit the ISIS thugs in Syria who were trying to regroup after their decimation by the Trump administration five years ago," the president said on Friday night at an event in North Carolina.

"We hit them hard," he added. "I ordered a massive strike on the terrorists that killed our three great patriots last week."
