Florida man accused of choking and threatening to kill 11-year-old denied bail

A Florida man accused of choking an 11-year-old boy unconscious, threatening him with a knife and gun, and holding him captive for three days will remain in jail after a judge denied him bail Sunday.

Authorities say Darnell Hairston, 60, was arrested after deputies stopped his truck in Bunnell on December 31. Inside, they found the missing child and two other juveniles. Investigators allege the boy was lured to a wooded campsite, bound with duct tape, gagged, and forced to hide on the floorboard of Hairston’s truck while traveling.
