George Washington helped build the White House, but never lived in it

As federal offices, banks and the Postal Service closed Monday in observance of Presidents’ Day and George Washington’s birthday, the holiday offered a reminder of a lesser-known piece of history: America’s first president never lived in the White House, even though he played a major role in creating it.
