2:25Now PlayingThe United States and Israel have launched coordinated military strikes across Iran for a fifth consecutive day, targeting Tehran and other major cities as part of a broader campaign against Iran.
In response, Iran hit Israel with missile attacks, with explosions heard in Jerusalem.
The Israeli military reported that it shot down an Iranian YAK-130 fighter over Tehran, with the last time the Israeli Air Force engaged in air-to-air combat being 1985, according to Israeli media.
The mourning ceremony for Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the first wave of strikes, was postponed due to the severity of Israeli strikes.
An Iranian Naval ship sank off the coast of Sri Lanka early Wednesday after a U.S. submarine struck it with a torpedo, with at least 30 people rescued so far, according to Sri Lanka’s foreign minister.
Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, said the U.S. military has destroyed 17 Iranian ships in the Middle East, in a video posted to social media Tuesday.
“In simple terms, we’re focused on shooting all the things that can shoot at us.”
“We are also sinking the Iranian navy — the entire navy,” Cooper said. “Thus far, we’ve destroyed 17 Iranian ships, including the most operational Iranian submarine that now has a hole in its side.”
“For decades, the Iranian regime has harassed international shipping. Today, there is not a single Iranian ship underway in the Arabian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, or Gulf of Oman,” he added. “And we will not stop.”
The U.S. military operation against Iran, called Operation Epic Fury, has more than 50,000 troops and more than 200 fighter jets involved.
“Now, we’re less than 100 hours into this operation, and we’ve already struck nearly 2,000 targets with more than 2,000 munitions,” Cooper said.
In response, Iran has launched more than 500 ballistic missiles and more than 2,000 drones, resulting in the death of six service members. The service members were reportedly killed in a drone strike in Kuwait.
The four Army Reserve soldiers died after a drone hit a command center on Sunday in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait. The strike came a day after the U.S. and Israel launched a military campaign against Iran, which has launched retaliatory strikes.
