Lawmakers could force War Powers vote any day, challenging Trump’s military authority

Congress may vote on resolutions this week to limit President Donald Trump’s military action in Iran.

House and Senate lawmakers of both parties have committed to forcing votes on war powers resolutions – measures meant to assert congressional authority – despite leadership’s opposition. Trump didn’t receive authorization from Congress, which has the sole authority to declare war, to help kill Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and strike military facilities across the country.
