UK's Starmer REJECTS Trump's Strait of Hormuz blockade, announces summit with France's MACRON

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced on Monday that he will bring together dozens of countries this week with French President Emmanuel Macron to hold a summit in efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.

Starmer said the ongoing closure of the strait "is deeply damaging" and "getting global shipping moving is vital to ease cost of living pressures."

"The UK has convened more than 40 nations who share our aim to restore freedom of navigation," Starmer wrote on X ahead of a news conference. "This week the UK and France will co-host a summit to advance work on a coordinated, independent, multinational plan to safeguard international shipping when the conflict ends."

Speaking after meetings with Gulf leaders, Starmer emphasized that regional partners view the crisis with urgency, particularly following what he described as Iran’s “indiscriminate” attacks on countries that did not seek the conflict, causing civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. He added that while the current ceasefire is welcome, it remains “highly fragile,” with the region still on edge and significant work needed to de-escalate tensions and safely reopen the strait.
