SMITHSONIAN exhibit looks at role of FIRST LADIES in America's 250 year history

American history is front and center at the National Museum of American History.

Hidden in this history are women whose stories are often overlooked.

"Women in this time period don't have an overt role in politics; they have a quieter, closed-door, behind-the-scenes role in politics," said Lisa Graddy, the museum's curator of political history.
