Luigi Mangione’s guilty plea to federal charges could create a significant legal challenge for the separate New York murder case against him, a former federal prosecutor told 7News.

Mangione, a Maryland man accused of fatally shooting the CEO of a health insurance company, pleaded guilty to two federal stalking charges Friday.

Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani discussed what could happen next during an interview with 7News anchor Megan Clarke, saying Mangione’s attorneys are expected to argue that New York’s double jeopardy protections prevent the state murder prosecution from moving forward.
